A very funky version of
Missy Elliott‘s “Work It” has gone viral, and it’s even gotten the attention of the rapper and producer herself.
West Warwick, Rhode Island resident Mary Halsey
performed Elliott’s “Work It” during karaoke in Warwick’s Goddard Park,
WPRI reports.
Halsey, who says she’s been performing the song at karaoke for years, said that she posted the video in hopes of getting just a few clicks.
“I thought I’d get a few hits, so I wrote ‘please share, I want to go viral’, and it took off from there,” she explained.
Elliott eventually saw the video, sharing it on her social media platforms, and writing, “I just found out I have a FUNKY WHITE SISTER but hold up she brought her homegirl to da cookout too, she the one tiptoeing in the background with a cup of oodles & noodles in her hand. Yo sis done made the elephant sound too.”
“I knew it would be big but I had no idea it would be this big,” Halsey told WPRI after finding out Elliott had shared the video.
Halsey added that she would love to meet rapper and producer. “I see it in my future,” she said.
