Larenz Tate Wants To Know If Fans Want a ‘Love Jones’ Sequel
By Kimberly Wilson · Updated October 23, 2020

The idea for a Love Jones sequel has been floating in the air for years now, though nothing concrete has developed thus far. And while we shouldn’t get our hopes up just yet, Larenz Tate just made our hearts all skip a beat.

“Chemistry still strong! Queen NIA LONG!” Tate said in a message posted to Instagram.

Chemistry still strong! Queen NIA LONG! @iamnialong #WeMightNeedToDoASequel 🖤🖤 **Thoughts??

A post shared by Larenz Tate (@larenztate) on Aug 8, 2019 at 2:49pm PDT

He continued, “#WeMightNeedToDoASequel … Thoughts??”

Um… the answer is a resounding yes, Larenz.

The movie, released in 1997, is set in the arts scene of Chicago and follows the love story of Darius Lovehall and Nina Mosley. “At the time it came out, people weren’t used to seeing Black people in love, and Black people vulnerable,” Tate shared with ESSENCE in 2017 when the filmed celebrated its 20th anniversary. He noted, “The way they spoke, and how they lived, and the prism they looked through is different than movies like Menace II Society or Dead Presidents.”

Article continues after video.

“Like a good song, it can stand the test of time,” he continued.

During an interview with The Breakfast Club, Tate also revealed he and Nia Long are ready to make Love Jones 2! There’s only ONE problem…they haven’t found the right script. “She and I were saying it’s both a blessing and a curse. The blessing is that people still want to see that story continue. The only curse is …if the script is not right. We’ve seen a couple scripts that just wasn’t right.”
