The whole Knowles-Carter clan trekked to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on Christmas Eve to honor Jay-Z’s grandmother with a personalized park bench. According to the Daily Mail, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Blue Ivy, and the twins, Sir and Rumi all visited the park to share the thoughtful gift presented to Hattie White: a park bench to her in her name. “Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago,” the inscription on the bench read. “With Love and Admiration to our root, Hattie White.” White was photographed looking at the bench with her hand over her heart as the whole family looked on. It was a touching moment to witness from a family that is known to be ultra-private about their lives. White famously said the words that inspired the name behind Beyonce’s iconic 2016 album Lemonade. In the final moments of the song “Freedom,” White’s voice is heard saying: “I had my ups and downs, but I always find the inner strength to pull myself up. I was served lemons, but I made lemonade.” The audio was taken from a speech White gave at her 90th birthday in 2015. Happy holidays to the whole Carter-Knowles family.
