Wanda Sykes has starred in sitcoms and feature films, won Emmys for her comedy writing and sports commentaries, and even entertained President Obama. Now, this longtime HBO favorite returns for her second solo special on the network when “Wanda Sykes: I’ma Be Me” debuts Saturday, October 10, at 10:00 P.M. ET/PT on HBO.
Taped in August before a live audience at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C., the special features the outspoken comic performing material featured in her current national stand-up tour, where she addresses such topics as having a new “cool” Black President, coming out, the real Michelle Obama, being a new mom, getting her first bikini wax, health care town halls, pirates and working as an entertainer on a gay cruise.

Sykes has been an HBO mainstay for many years. The Emmy-nominated “Wanda Sykes: Sick and Tired,” her first solo special on the network, debuted in 2006. As one of the writers on “The Chris Rock Show,” she shared an Emmy in 1999 for Outstanding Writing for a Variety or Music Program, and also won Emmys in 2002 and 2004 for her humorous commentaries on “Inside the NFL.” In addition, she has appeared frequently on Larry David’s hit HBO series “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and will be featured on the new season of the show. Named one of Entertainment Weekly’s “25 Funniest People in America,” Sykes recently hosted the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, and will launch her own late-night network show this fall.
