They do say that honesty is the best policy and in the case of T.I. and Tiny Harris, the rapper is spilling some tea about his split from his soon-to-be ex-wife.
In an interview with Power 105.1’s Angie Martinez, the King of the South revealed that the reason why his six-year marriage to the Xscape singer is ending is because he can be a better friend to her than he can be a husband.
“[She’s] still one of the best friends I have in the world,” he told Martinez. “I can just be a better best friend than a husband.”
While rumors swirl that the two aren’t exactly on one accord right now — given that the rapper may or may not be dating someone else — he says that he and the mother of his three youngest children are in a good place.
“There is no beef, we good. We straight. Everybody else is the one who got the problem. We straight, we see each other, we speak, we talk, spend time together. We good.”
As for his reasoning for a split, Harris says there’s this little thing called marriage that’s holding him back from accomplishing the things he wants.
“I’m on a mission, I’m striving to take my family, it’s name and our legacy as far and high as it can possibly go. In my life there will be two different things. There will people, places and things that help me get there and there will be people, places and things that will distract me deter me [from getting there] so, you know, it just seems to me that marriage and what marriage means and what marriage does it’s just one of those things that just distracts me and deter me. That could be selfish but ultimately, I’m the patriarch of this family and it’s my responsibility to take us onward and upward and that’s what I intend to do. I just think that I have a purpose and I don’t always have the time to do the thoughtful, considerate things that a husband should do. Me knowing that about myself, I’m not gon’ deter myself from my plan, I’m gon’ move, and whoever move with me, they coming with me and whoever not gon move with me, ‘I’ll be back’.”
