In September 2017, Idris Elba shocked fans when he revealed that he did, in fact, have a new girlfriend.
“I have a girlfriend,” Elba confessed to Refinery 29. “You saw me with Sabrina [Dhowre].”
Elba first met the former beauty queen in Canada on the set of his film The Mountain Between Us. The couple had already been dating for seven months when they went public with their relationship. They made their first red carpet appearance together during the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival and began regularly sharing photos of each other on Instagram.
As fans settled in to the idea that their forever crush was officially taken again, Elba, 45, got an idea of his own — ask Dhowre to be his forever.
In February, just five days before Valentine’s Day. Elba popped the question (and nearly broke the internet) with a surprise proposal before a screening for his latest film, Yardie.
