‘Tis the season for award nominations. The Golden Globe nominees were announced this morning, and we spotted some well-deserving names on the list.
Selma, in theaters everywhere January 9, snagged an impressive four nominations, including one for Best Motion Picture – Drama. Other contenders in the category include Boyhood, Foxcatcher, The Imitation Game, and The Theory of Everything.
The movie’s lead actor, David Oyelowo, who plays Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., nabbed a nomination for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama; its director, Ava Duvernay, is nominated for Best Director – Motion Picture; and “Glory,” by John Legend and Common, was nominated for Best Original Song – Motion Picture.
The adorable Quvenzhané Wallis was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in Annie.
On the television side, Orange is the New Black walked away with three nominations, including Best Television Series – Comedy or Musical. Other nominees in the category include Girls, Jane the Virgin, Silicon Valley, and Transparent.
Uzo Aduba also landed a nomination for Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for her role as Suzanne “Crazy Eyes” Warren. Taylor Schilling was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical.
Viola Davis, star of the hit How to Get Away with Murder, was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Drama. On a lighter side of things, Don Cheadle was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Comedy or Musical for his role in House of Lies.
