Ask The Experts: Best Ways To Minimize Hair Breakage
August is national hair loss month and celebrate we chatted with Dr. Hair, otherwise known as Reginald Mitchell who is a celebrity hairstylist for ORS' (previously Organic Root Stimulator) Nature’s Secret Tour, to give us a few tips on minimizing breakage.
His number one tip: “Hair breakage is usually caused by negligence and abuse,” he says. “Sometimes choosing the incorrect chemical or using chemicals on unhealthy hair can be a culprit as well. Just like a new born baby, the hair needs a little TLC and regimen of cleansing and conditioning.”

Wear styles that can be wrapped. Also, usually a haircut and a style that is easily maintained is best for the hair. If natural, gently do the 2-strand twist and wear for 1-2 weeks and take down and shampoo and condition.
Medication and Dieting
There are a number of reasons for hair loss or thinning that most people are not aware of such as medication and diet. Of course exercise and diet is a must for healthy hair. With the foods we eat or supplements we take we need Vitamins A, B, C, D & E to strengthen the hair. We also must not forget heredity plays a part in hair loss in some persons; it’s in the blood.
Give It a Rest
Surprisingly, braiding the hair does give the hair rest. Don’t wear styles that require using flat or curling irons daily. Don’t wear a weave that has to be braided too tight and worn for long periods of time. The scalp needs to breathe and the hair needs a rest.
