Say it ain’t so! After nearly nine years of marriage, it appears one of our favorite celebrity couples is headed for divorce.
According to TMZ, Monica filed divorce paperwork earlier this month in Atlanta. Sources close to the site say the singer attempted to have the divorce papers sealed, but wasn’t able to make it happen. Shannon’s last post with Monica was a throwback from their wedding day, posted in November 2018.
The couple initially married twice – one in November 2010 during a private ceremony, and again in a lavish July 2011 Atlanta wedding where Monica walked down the isle in a $1 million Stephanie Rolland silk gown. Scenes from the wedding were filmed for a segment on Inside Edition. Celebrities like Kobe Bryant, LL Cool J and Nene Leakes were in attendance.
Monica and Shannon share a 5-year-old daughter named Laiyah, and Monica also has two sons (Rocko and Romelo) from a previous relationship. Currently, it isn’t known what caused the split or if Monica will be seeking spousal or child support. However, fans of Monica have noticed that she’s been ring-less in recent Instagram photos.
