This story originally appeared in the November 2019 issue of ESSENCE.

Although her approach is constantly evolving, interior designer Bailey Li brings signature elements to every project. “I’ll redo a sofa rather than buy a new one—I’m partial to giving older things new life,” she says. “I’m willing to travel far for really cool vintage and custom pieces just to introduce one-of-a-kind details.”

It’s this unique thought process that makes the vibe in Li’s New Jersey home so unique and eccentric. Sit back and relax as she takes us into her sacred space to show us first hand the secret to how our homes can be fly too.

“If you’re interested in antique frames or mirrors, try local boutiques and dealers. I frequent [New Jersey’s] C.N.P. Treasures and Meru Amina Vintage Gallery.”

“Never throw out your gently loved designer shoes. Instead, put them on display. A lot of the shoes I purchase translate into works of art.”
