The 10 Best Songs to Sweat To

When you need an extra push to make it through, these hit songs will get you there.
The 10 Best Songs to Sweat To
By Rozalynn Frazier · Updated October 27, 2020

When it comes to working out, sometimes we just need an extra push to help us make it through.

One way to keep motivated while moving: music.

Yep, research shows that turning on the tunes reduces your perceived effort, boosts your endurance, and, let’s face it, can totally turn your sweat sesh from a chore into an all-out celebration. That is, if you select the correct songs.

Why This Move From ‘Formation’ Is the Ultimate Ab Workout

To get in that fitness frame of mind, try starting off your workout with a track that has an inspiring message, like Beyoncé’s “Run The World (Girls)” or “Eminem’s “Lose Yourself.” Another option: Find a beat that just won’t let you sit. (Cue: Rich “Homie Quan’s “Ooh Ooh Ooh”).  Not only will this amp you up from the first squat—or sprint or snatch— but your choice will totally set the tone for what’s to come.

“Plan the rest of your playlist according to your workout,” adds Robbie Ann Darby, fitness expert and creator of RAD Experience. She notes that every track is an opportunity to keep you on track.  “Hip hop is great to lift to, R&B is perfect for that slow burn ab workout, and those straight up Top 40 beats will definitely help you power through cardio sessions.”

And so you have one less thing to worry about in the gym, Darby pulled together this pump-you-up playlist with some of her favorite sweat songs.  Here that? That’s the sound of you crushing major calories. You’re welcome.

“Work” by Rihanna, Featuring Drake

Nothing can get you “worked” up for you workout like this hit.

“Jumpman” by Drake & Future

Put a little pep in your step while you clock miles on the treadmill or handle those box jumps at CrossFit.

“Formation” by Beyoncé

For the days when you need to “slay” in the gym.

“Lose My Breath” by Destiny’s Child

Something about hearing “can you keep up?” over and over again makes you want to pump those pedals in Spin class as fast as possible.

“Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi

This is an oldie but a goodie simply because we all know that last rep or those last few minutes of class sometime take a miracle to complete.

“Push It”  by Salt N Pepa (Wick It Remix)

This old school hit is the jam for upper body workouts; your push up game will never be the same.

“Again”  by Fetty Wap

The BPM”s (beats per minute) on this song are perfect for any core workout— especially as you are getting beach body ready and want that  six-pack from last summer to be yours “again.”

“WTF (Where They From)” by Missy Elliott, featuring Pharrell Williams

If you like to “shape what your momma gave ya,” just play this song back to back a few times for one legit heart (and booty) pumpin’ workout.

“Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj

A big hit to work the biggest muscles in your body — your glutes. This beat goes so hard, making it very hard not to squat it like it’s hot.

“Clique” by Kanye West, featuring Big Sean and Jay-Z

This ultimate “crew love” anthem is perfect for those buddy workouts. So team up and turn up all while you shape up.
