This is a reinterpretation of Foxy Browns famous do, says stylist Hadiiya Barbel, hadiiyabarbel.com, who created this do. The old-school version was uniformly round and shaped with a pick. This update has graduated layers blown dry for maximum volume and bangs for added softness. To keep it sleek, before blow-drying use Aveda Hang Straightening Lotion, which protects during heat styling.
This descendant of 1970s-era Afro puffs is pretty fierce. Back then the puffs were tight and round; now theyre softer, less structured and more sensuous. This, along with the diagonal part, makes us say gotta have it. Barbel applied LOral Natures Therapy Perfect Curls Defining Creme from roots to ends on wet hair before drying it with a diffuser. Then she used Redken Water Wax 03 Shine Defining Pomade at the crown to manage frizz.
Chuck Amos describes his creation as a combination of the “ladylike influence of the thirties, spiked with a touch of New Edition.” The new twist here is the side part, with its loose, asymmetrical accent. Amos achieved this ultracool elevation by picking out the hair on the right side more than the left. He used a combination of Pantene Pro-V Relaxed & Natural Intensive Oil Sheen Spray and its Daily Oil Cream Moisturizer for hydration and shine.
