In this month’s issue of ESSENCE—featuring our beautiful cover star Issa Rae—we took a serious approach to fashion and homed in on this season’s skirt suit trend for our chic style pages.
Throwing tradition to the wind, top designers such as Chanel, Alice + Olivia, Emporio Armani and Nina Ricci presented skirt suits in an unconventional manner on their runways. Masculine silhouettes of the ’80s and ’90s were replaced with softer new approaches like oversize, flowy blazers paired with miniskirts and cinched-waist blazers paired with maxi skirts.
When we hear the term “skirt suit,” we typically imagine church women donning their traditional Sunday’s best or businesswomen wearing conventional gear for Monday meetings. But the tides have turned for spring/summer 2019 fashion.
