Street Style: Break From the Rain

New York fashionistas take break from the rain. This week the style squad head to trendy SoHo for the best of the best in sidewalk fashion.

Hello, Sailor!

Jessica is nautical and adorable. We caught the 25-year-old marketing specialist strolling outside the ESSENCE offices. Up close she was a walking lesson in how to accessorize. Her gold statement necklace and open-toed boots looked effortless and stylish without being too over-the-top.

White Hot

Ebony was dashing off to report a story when we caught her underground. The 25-year-old freelance reporter was glowing despite the stuffy subway heat. She looks perfectly professional in her crisp white shirt and khaki pants. But this girl isn’t afraid to take risks. Her beaded statement necklace and gold sandals really pump up the look.

Fierce Fashion

No other way to say it. Nyeaka is fierce! The 21-year-old Zara shop girl was off to get a bite when we caught her running up the subway steps. Her outfit is perfection from the bold black boots and cross-body bag to the skinny gold chains and cropped jeans with gold buttons. She can strike a pose for us anytime.

Tutu Cute

Jasmine is just sweet 16, but she already understands how to put the perfect look together. We pulled her from a group of friends outside the Topshop store in SoHo. Her tutu-esqe skirt and paisley vest make her stand out in any crowd. Up close you’d notice her metallic eyeshadow and perfectly smudged black eyeliner. This young fashionista has it together.

Can’t Touch This

A little rain couldn’t stop our fashion parade. We popped into Topshop as it started to pour and found this blue jean baby browsing the racks. Harem pants can be incredibly difficult to pull off, but Samantha looks adorable in this tweed pair. Her skinny red belt and red highlights make her style an absolute winner.

Floral Frenzy

Classic summer fashion is feminine and fun. And what better way to show it off than by wearing a sweet little sundress. We adore Hellen’s take on the season’s staple. The 24-year-old DKNY shop girl made the perfect choice with turquoise and orange. The bold colors look incredible next to her skin. She knows how to accessorize too. Her toned-down gladiator sandals are a welcome update from last year’s oversized version. And the leather bracelet add a necessary toughness to this super sweet look. We’d let her pick out an outfit for us any day.

Orange Crush

We should have known this trendsetter would work as a stylist. From the puffed sleeves on her orange printed dress to her motorcycle boots and bold white cocktail ring, 25-year-old Geneva has it together.

Bronze Beauty

Adenike stopped into the ESSENCE offices for work, but it was her style that caught our attention. This 28-year-old publicist sealed the deal in this beautiful gold-toned shift and chunky gold necklace. Her winning attitude really makes this work.

High Stepper

High-waisted shorts may be nearly impossible to pull off, but Samantha’s pin-striped pair is the perfect fit. The 20-year-old student looks adorably sweet in her white tube top, woven belt and thong sandals. It’s a simple outfit, but the fit makes this look a style standout.

Black Is Back

Anyone in liquid leggings deserves to be noticed. April, a 23-year-old makeup artist, decides her looks with accessories first. The clothes are just an afterthought. We just might follow her lead.

Sweet Sundress

Andrea was celebrating a new job when we caught her shopping in SoHo. The 22-year-old new grad and soon-to-be product developer showed off an outfit with perfect proportions. Her white sundress hit just above the knee and the multicolored belt showed off her small waist. We’re not surprised she got the job.

Coming Up Roses

Some outfits just make sense. Lashara looks darling in this high-waisted floral mini-skirt and teal short-sleeved cardigan. The 22-year-old proves fringe is still having its moment with these faux suede booties. And who says you can’t wear a hat inside. This rose cap pulls everything together.

Rainy Day Diva

A small statement makes all the difference on a rainy day. And Patima’s gold Converse sneakers do the trick. She looked comfortable when we caught up to her in the subway. The 24-year-old stylist stuck to the basics with a gray wrap top and skinny jeans.

Black & Blue

Jamila breaks all the color rules with her mix of blue, black and brown. But that’s what makes this outfit a winner. We love the easy-breezy feel of her black scoop-neck dress and light summer cardigan. The 27-year-old publicist pulled the whole outfit together with simple accessories. Her vintage brooch gives this look the unique touch it needs.
