Erykah Badu Says Daughter Puma Is An 'Improvement' On Her Design
Erykah Badu is in a league of her own and is, quite possibly, one of the most accesible celebrities in the world.
The singer stopped by ESSENCE to chat with the hosts of Yes, Girl!, where she revealed that she regularly slides into the DMs of fans and friends looking for advice.
Badu dished that people sometimes message her for advice, but she often reaches out first. "You know, I also slide into their DMs too. Tell them how much I appreciate them. You know, how well they are doing or keeping their spirit up in this heavy funk sometimes."
Can you imagine getting advice from Erykah Badu?
The singer also shared her number for anyone with something to say, joking, "My cell number is 214-374-9677, you got something to say call me, don't say it behind my back."
And, it should come as no surprise, that Badu's openness extends to her children. Asked what she's teaching daughter Puma about womanhood, she told ESEENCE, "We talk candidly about every single thing. We talk about how ... She says, 'Mom, I'm you and I can tell that I'm you, but I have you to help me through it.'"
"It's like this amazing thing, this understanding that we have," she added. "I treat her as if she's me, and she treats me as if I'm her. We just have an immense amount of empathy, and sympathy, and camaraderie, and balance, and understanding for each other. She's a young woman moving into her teens and I'm a 45-year-old woman moving into my wisdom, and we just teach each other as we go."
