On Thursday, Regina Hall became the first Black woman in the New York Film Critics Circle’s 83-year history to take home the association’s award for Best Actress.
Hall picked up the award for her role in the Magnolia Pictures comedy, Support The Girls, released earlier this year to critical praise.
Another Regina we love also picked up an award on Thursday, as Regina King won Best Supporting Actress for her turn as Sharon Rivers in Barry Jenkins’ adaptation of James Baldwin’s If Beale Street Could Talk. Both the film and King’s performance have received tons of buzz, with hopes that King will secure an Oscar nomination at the top of 2019.
As buzz grows around If Beale Street Could Talk and Hall’s NYFCC Awards win, the two ladies could see themselves receiving more wins as awards season begins.
