In the weeks since the now infamous Brooklyn nail salon attack, where 21-year-old Christina Thomas was physically assaulted at Happy Red Apple Nails, many Black consumers have been conflicted about what to do next. While some have pledged to only spend their dollars at Black-owned nail salons, others are still okay frequenting Asian-owned salons.
While there’s no clear-cut answer, it’s great to see celebrities take part in this ongoing conversation and use their influence to take a stand. One person in particular who is using their platform to speak up in her own way is Teyana Taylor. Get your tickets to the 2018 ESSENCE Street Style Block Party! The Harlem-born entertainer offered the victim of the Brooklyn nail salon attack a lifetime of free manicures at her New York-based salon, Junie B Nails. The proud mother and wife made the incredibly kind gesture following a press conference she held for Thomas and her mom to show her support.
