It’s been quite the year for entertainer extraordinaire Missy Elliott and things are only continuing to get even better.

MTV announced Monday that Elliott will be the recipient of the 2019 Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, which recognizes iconic artists whose creativity in the music and visual spaces have made an everlasting impact on the culture. The deserving rapper, singer/songwriter and producer took to social media to celebrate shortly after the news was announced.

“I am Humbly Grateful to be receiving the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award,” she wrote in a tweet.

With over 30 years in the business, Missy’s Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award is certainly long overdue, but more than well-deserved. Her remarkable career as a trailblazing singer/songwriter, rapper, producer and overall musical visionary is one that has influenced popular culture for over two decades. Additionally, her evolving passion for dance and visual arts has resulted in some of the most innovative, celebrated and revolutionary music videos and live performances of our time.

Past recipients of the coveted honor include Michael Jackson (whom the award was renamed for in 1991), Janet Jackson, LL Cool J, Beyonce, Kanye West, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez, to name just a few.

The 2019 MTV Video Music Awards will air August 26 at 8PM EST on MTV.
