My Selfie Journey: Camille Cohen

Growing up in Miami, Camille thought having a relaxer was the only way to survive the intense humidity. Now, 70% of her hair is natural and she enjoys becoming re-acquainted with her natural texture.

Camille’s Journey
By Deena Campbell · February 10, 2015

My hair is…in transition. Currently 10 months without a relaxer.

I started my hair journey…in April 2014. I relaxed my hair for my optometry school graduation & decided that would be the last time.

My current hair regimen: I wash my hair once/week. I let it sit with a deep conditioner for 15-20 mins and then I rinse, small roller set, and sit under a bonnet dryer for an hour. I usually sleep with the set and then I just tease the hair in the morning.

My favorite hair products include…argan oil, silicone mix conditioner and olive oil edge control.

The secret to having healthy hair is...leaving it alone. I don't use direct heat on my hair and in general, I keep my hair routine simple.

My biggest hair challenge is…waiting for it to dry. My hair will hold water like a camel!

I love my hair because…it's versatile.

My hair crush is…definitely Tracee Ellis Ross.
