Mo’Nique is pushing back against gender and racial pay disparity in Hollywood by asking her fans to boycott Netflix.
The Oscar-winning actress took to Instagram to complain about the $500,000 offer by Netflix for her upcoming standup special, a rate she believes was way below what she deserves.
“I am asking that you stand with me and boycott Netflix for gender bias and color bias,” she said in the Instagram video.

In the clip, Mo’Nique compared herself to her colleagues Amy Schumer, Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle, who each earned (a renegotiated) $11 million, $40 million and $60 million respectively for their Netflix comedy specials. That makes Netflix’s offer to Mo’Nique less than 5 percent of what it initially offered Schumer, Newsweek calculated.
Mo’Nique said that Netflix overlooked her legendary resume, yet used Schumer’s own resume of sold out shows and blockbuster films as an example of why she deserved the $11 million she negotiated.
Another actress who is dealing with pay disparity is Tracee Ellis Ross, who recently found out she was making significantly less money than her Black-ish co-star Anthony Anderson. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ross is considering doing fewer appearances on the hit show after she found out.
