"Before I ever wrote one rhyming word on paper, before that, I was a Black man in America," the rapper said.
Killer Mike has let his voice be heard in the race for the 2016 presidential vote.
At a Bernie Sanders rally on Sunday, the rapper endorsed the Vermont State Senator as the best of candidate to lead the nation on a "political revolution."
"In my heart of hearts, I truly believe that Senator Bernie Sanders is the best man to lead this country," he said. "I believe it because he, unlike any other candidate, said he would like to restore the voter rights act. He, unlike any other candidate, said I wish to end this illegal war on drugs that disproportionately targets minorities and poor. Unlike any other candidate in my life, he says that education should be free for every citizen of this country."
The Atlanta native, who is best known for his work with OutKast and Jay Z, doesn't want to be marginalized by his career path because he has always "given a damn about American politics" by taking to the streets and advocating for change within his community.
In his short time in front of the crowd, Killer Mike, born Michael Render, reminded the crowd to stay passionate in offering their unwavering support of Senator Sanders.
"Make sure that wherever you go, you take the name, the ideas, the philosophy of Bernie Sanders there and when you leave make sure to take the fire because they have felt the burn."
