In her new book, Sarah Jakes opens up about telling her parents, at just 14-years-old, that she was pregnant, and writes about her extraordinary journey from teen mother to pastor and author.
In her new book, Lost and Found: Finding Hope in the Detours of Life, Sarah Jakes, daughter of megapastor TD Jakes, reminds us all that adversity can empower us.
Jakes takes readers through the story of her own bumpy road, which included an unplanned pregnancy in 2004 at just 14 years old. Telling her parents the news, which devastated them, came with its own controversy as The Potter's House, TD Jakes' church, faced intense backlash and criticism from the media and members of the church.
"I remember [my parents] being completely silent for a really long time. I know that may not be a big deal in most homes, but when your father speaks for a living, to render him speechless is quite the task," she said in an intrview with Dr. Phil.
Now, in her mid-twenties, the newly-divorced mom leads of The Potter's House women's ministry, and speaks passionately about her relationship with God.
Stay tuned for our exclusive interview with Jakes on Essence.com and don't forget to check her out at the Essence Festival this year, where she will host a love and relationship seminar at our Empowerment conference.
