The singer releases "Consumerism" today. Check out the song here.
Today, Lauryn Hill is scheduled to be released from prison after serving three months for tax evasion.
To mark the occasion, Hill released a brand new song. "Consumerism," much like its predecessor "Neurotic Society," is a socially conscious song with a message in its lyrics.
The song was part of some material Hill was working on before serving time, the singer elaborated in a brief note on her tumblr page. "We felt the need to discuss the underlying socio-political, cultural paradigm as I saw it," she writes. "I haven’t been able to watch the news too much recently, so I’m not hip on everything going on. But inspiration of this sort is a kind of news in and of itself, and often times contains an urgency that precedes what happens. I couldn’t imagine it not being relevant."
Listen to "Consumerism" and share what you think of it.
