Quick poll: Besides your yearly pap smear, when was the last time you went to the doctor for your yearly physical examination? Chances are you've skipped a year here or there. Maybe it's been a few years. The truth is many of us, especially the men in our lives, avoid going to the doctor unless it's for something extremely serious.
According to a recent report by the Census Bureau, Americans are visiting doctors less frequently, but spending more money on health-related neccesities like prescriptions and health insurance. The study found that working-age adults made an average of 3.9 visits to medical providers, compared with 4.8 in 2001. Among the reasons experts cited for the change was the growing cost of health insurance that caused many people to think twice about visiting the doctor for slight sniffle.
