ESSENCE Music Festival headliner Jill Scott made an appearance Wednesday at the White House for a poetry event hosted by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama. Scott was one of about a dozen poets to read their work and she recited poems ranging on topics from HIV awareness to educating youth.

President Obama remarked during the event about poetry saying, "The power of poetry is that everybody experiences it differently. A great poem is one that resonates with us, that challenges us and that teaches us something about ourselves."

Take a look at Jill's performance and tell us what you think. You can see more of Jill at the ESSENCE Music Festival this summer.
