This was the year that Janet Jackson showed she was fierce and fearless. Not only did get back into acting and star in two Tyler Perry movies, but mid-year the pop songstress dared to chop off her signature long hair for shorter, slicker do. She also began a hot new romance with Wissam Al Mana, a businessman from Qatar.In all, Janet Jackson had an eventful year. Take a look at what we’ll remember most about Ms. Jackson’s fabulous year.
Passion for Fashion
Janet gradually started making more public appearances months after her brother Michael’s passing. Ever the dedicated clotheshorse, she was spotted taking in some fashion inspiration at London Fashion Week in February.
In the Spotlight
Jackson wore Alexander McQueen in tribute to the late designer for the “Why Did I Get Married Too?” premiere in New York City.The movies was the second time Jackson worked with Perry, and the super shy songstress revealed that acting was her first love. “I have more of a passion for acting than I do singing, because singing comes so much easier to me,” she said. “Acting is more of a challenge.”
She’s a Lady
Jackson (dressed in Lanvin) may have been debuting her movie “Why Did I Get Married, Too?” in London this past May, but it was her fabulous new haircut that had everyone talking.
Divinely Janet
Janet’s performance at the American Idol Grand Finale 2010 in May confirmed why she is the queen of our hearts. Not only did she sing like her life depended on it, she also showed that being 44 is sexier than ever. Work, Miss Jackson!
New Orleans
Jackson was this year’s headliner for the Essence Music Festival in New Orleans.
Center Stage
Janet hadn’t performed on a concert stage in nearly two years when she brought the house down at the ESSENCE Music Festival in July. Not only did she perform a mind-blowing 30-song set, Miss Jackson had everyone on their feet. It’s good to have her back!
Grey Lady
This year Jackson dared to work on Tyler Perry’s adaptation of the iconic choreopoem, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Was Enuf.” Though the reviews for her performance were tepid, we salute Janet for taking on the challenge. Here she was photographed at a reception for the film.
Big Night
Jackson channeled her inner samurai with a Haider Ackermann suit for the red-carpet premiere of “For Colored Girls” in October.
In Costume
Jackson’s Zorro-inspired Lanvin outfit had everyone talking this past Halloween. Love the mustache!
Elegant Woman
Jackson presented her friend Donatella Versace with an award at the annual Glamour Women of the Year in November. And she was dressed in Versace. What a nice touch.
