“Tyler Perry’s House of Payne” continues to be a hit and is the top watched show in Black households, according to Broadcasting & Cable. The show made history when it went into syndication in 2006, soon after its debut.
“I’m just one of us,” Perry tells ESSENCE. “I come from a real place, and I come from the realness in my heart. People can connect to what they know, and I feel like people think they know me and I feel like I know them.”
