Watch Pt 1 of ESSENCE’s exclusive coverage of the Spring 2009 New York Fashion Week »
It’s all about the P’s on the runway. Paper bag pants, platforms and peekaboo. Or shall we say peekaboob? Spring 2009 New York Fashion Week designers rocked the overexposed look in show after show.
Most people would notice an exposed breast on the street, but fashion’s glitterati didn’t flinch a bit when flashing headlights became an accessory on the runway.
Models for Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein and Derek Lam shows strutted down the runway in barely-there tops, while other designers toned it down a notch by simply using sheer fabric with strategically placed opaque strips.
Although the verdict is still out on whether the naked look is appropriate for the office or a night out, there’s always some way to see yourself through (pun definitely intended) fashion trends. The key is to find a slip or camisole to wear underneath. Opt for a bold color so it’s obvious your undergarment is supposed to be seen.
We caught model Selita Ebanks in an unexpected peekaboo, wearing a light-colored bra under a colored shirt. Not a good idea because photos bring it out like an x-ray.
