Newsstands from Los Angeles to D.C. sold out of Wednesday’s newspapers announcing Barack Obama the country’s first Black president, according to cnn.com. Some elated customers grabbed two, three or even 30 copies of the historical publications. Walter Elliott, who snatched 90 copies of The Baltimore Sun from a Baltimore street vendor, said he wanted to “own a piece of history.” The Chicago Tribune and The New York Times were among the companies to restart their printing presses to produce hundreds of thousands of additional copies across the nation. The New York Times was going for as much as $600 on eBay. Kirit Patel, a convenience store owner in Mineola, New York, said: “I never saw papers sold with such a spirit. I saw some customers who never buy a paper, but today they bought two copies. They were asking for more papers.”
