David Paterson, the witty, legally blind New York governor, criticized the “Saturday Night Live” skit that portrayed him as bumbling and incompetent.
In the skit, “SNL” cast member Fred Armisen as Paterson, who will appoint someone to replace Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, said he has three criteria for filling the job: economic experience, upstate influence and being disabled and unprepared for the job as he is. He then held a chart upside down.
“I can certainly take a joke,” Paterson, who is African-American, told a local television station. “The idea that disability goes hand-in-hand with inability to actually be effective or to run a state or run a business-I think it’s a very negative classification.”
