Jesse Williams may be done with his marriage, but he’s still fully committed to fatherhood.
After filing for divorce from his wife of five years, Aryn Drake-Lee, E News! reports that the actor and activist has asked for joint legal and physical custody of their two children.
The couple tied the knot in 2012 and throughout their marriage, the Grey’s Anatomy star has always spoken very highly of his wife, a real estate agent who he met while he was teaching before he began a career in acting.
“I was a teacher when I met her, so she’s been with me through all different facets of my career,” he told USA Today in 2010. “She’s stuck with me through thick and thick and thick and thin.” In 2009 he sang her praises as well stating, “She is her own person,” he said to PEOPLE. “Being intelligent and self-made is a big deal for me.”
Williams and Drake-Lee welcomed their daughter Sadie in 2014 and son Maceo in 2015. Williams plays Dr. Jackson Avery on the the hit ABC show and has become well-known for speaking out in support of the Black Lives Matter movement and against social and racial injustices.
The couple has yet to publicly address the divorce, which shocked fans.
