Six-year-old Jasmina Anema, of Manhattan, New York, will receive a bone marrow transplant today, according to WCBSTV.com.
Jasmina was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of leukemia in January. More than 10,000 names were added to the bone marrow registry and a bone marrow drive was held to help her which enlisted the celebrity muscle of talent such as pop princess Rihanna and former Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland.
Although a donor was found last month, Jasmina was unable to go through with the surgery because she contracted shingles. Then, radiation and chemotherapy prevented her from the procedure.
After the transplant, Jasmina will have to see if her body will accept or reject the bone marrow.—MB
