Sisters are still doing it for themselves. The first African-American female rabbi in the world will be ordained on June 6, according to The New York Times. Alysa Stanton, the 45-year-old Cleveland native and Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion student, will complete her studies and be ordained a rabbi at Plum Street Temple in downtown Cincinnati next month. Stanton plans to move this summer to start her ministry at Bayt Shalom in Greenville, North Carolina. Recently divorced, Stanton has a 14-year-old adopted daughter.—BB
