How did you meet your man?
We met at the University of West Georgia in 2009. It was after a party and all I remember thinking was, why is this drunken guy trying to talk to me? Montae was acting that way just in case I rejected him. At the end of the night, he asked for my phone number. In an effort not to be rude, I told him to get it from a mutual friend and quickly left the party. Little did I know, that 30-minute interaction would blossom into this love story.
What was your first impression of him?
I thought he was extremely attractive! Even though I did a good job hiding it, I would just melt when he looked my way. And I loved his personality. We would sit and laugh for hours nonstop. It’s like we never ran out of things to talk about.
Did you play hard to get? How?
I definitely played hard to get. Montae chased me for eight months before he made his way out of the “Friend Zone.” His persistence won me over!
Best vacation you ever took together?
Last year we took a trip to Newport Beach and Los Angeles, CA. We had an amazing time sightseeing and exploring Southern California.
What’s the sweetest thing he’s ever done for you?
I don’t think I can pinpoint a “sweetest thing” because I’m in awe of the sweet things he does every day. I am so blessed to have someone who treats me like I’m the only person in this world.
Did you have a hunch he was going to propose?
I actually did! Apparently Montae didn’t know you aren’t supposed to tell your girlfriend that you just asked for her mom’s blessing to marry her. He told me right after he spoke with my mom and all I could do was laugh and smile. He proposed two days later.
How did he pop the question?
We were slow dancing to Christmas songs in our hotel. Then, over Eartha Kitt’s version of “Santa Baby” he dropped to one knee and asked me to be his wife. I cried, said, “Yes!” We spent the next few moments praying to God to bless our marriage and engagement. It was the best night of my life!
