Not even a year into his role as Commander-in-Chief, President Barack Obama has won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize today, according to CNN.com. The Norwegian Nobel Committee said it honored Obama for his “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”
President Obama, who was awakened to the news this morning, said he was humbled to be selected. “Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” the committee said.
