Prince wed Mayte in a private Valentine's Day ceremony in 1996 and they welcomed their first child together in October of that same year. Their son, who was named Boy Gregory, sadly passed away one week after his birth due to complications from a rare skull defect. Over the years, Mayte has kept quiet about the intimate details of her relationship with Prince, speaking on their friendship, marriage and subsequent split only on rare occasion. She remained understandably silent on social media once news broke of his passing, but did offer a few words to People in a heartbreaking statement.

“I can’t even think of the words of what I’m feeling. This man was my everything, we had a family. I am beyond deeply saddened and devastated.  I loved him then, I love him now and will love him eternally. He’s with our son now.”
