Ask anyone who is the most influential rapper of today, and they will most likely say Kendrick Lamar.

Lamar has made headlines both for his socially conscious lyrics and his commitment to the community, and now, the To Pimp a Butterfly rapper will be presented with the keys to his hometown of Compton, reports Rolling Stone.

The honor comes less than one month after the hometown hero was selected to serve as grand marshal in the Compton Christmas Parade, and last May, the state gave Lamar a Generational Icon Award.

“Kendrick Lamar is a phenomenal artist whose work has served as a catalyst to raise a new level of consciousness for this generation,” Brown said in a statement. “His message challenges the status quo and motivates listeners to rethink our society’s institutions. I believe Kendrick Lamar is not only an artist, but an influencer of an entire generation.”
