Facebook Unveils New Tools To Help You Avoid Your Ex

After a tough breakup, nothing stings worse than watching your ex move on before you do on Facebook. What’s a girl to do when “unfriending” an ex feels petty, but seeing them smiling alongside someone new in your feed every morning makes your heart ache? Facebook feels your pain, and the developers want to help.

The social media giant recently unveiled new tools to help users handle awkward encounters with their exes. In a blog post on Thursday, Facebook detailed new tools now being tested in the U.S. on mobile devices.

“Starting today, we are testing tools to help people manage how they interact with their former partners on Facebook after a relationship has ended,” wrote product manager Kelly Winters. “When people change their relationship status to indicate they are no longer in a relationship, they will be prompted to try these tools.”

The new tools will include an option to not see updates, photos and videos from your ex in your feed without having to block them. Users can also opt for Facebook to no longer suggest an ex first when they’re tagging status updates and photos. Want to make sure they’re not checking up on you too? An option is also available to limit how much an ex sees your status updates and photos.
