Serena Williams is unstoppable. The tennis star has defeated Lucie Safarova in three sets to win the French Open.
According to the ESPN, this win marks Williams’ third time taking the crown at Roland Garros and her 20th Grand Slam title.
“None of this was possible with out any of you,” said Williams during her post-match remarks. “My dad, I love you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you, thank you guys.”
The match was no easy feat, Williams, ranked No. 1, took the first set 6-3, while Safarova rebutted in the second, 7-6. Williams’ made her comeback and took the third set, 6-2.
Williams addressed the second set saying, “I choked. Simple as that. I think you have to admit to it.” She added that her serve was off and she got nervous.
Following her “flu-game” victory in Thursday’s semi-finals, Williams said that she didn’t train on Friday and called the struggle “a living nightmare.”
“Twenty is pretty amazing to me, unfortunately, I’m thinking about Wimbledon. I know it’s bad, it’s bad. But, I’m going to enjoy this moment, I hope,” said Williams.
Congratulations Serena!
