Carmen Ejogo on Diversity in Hollywood: 'There's Going to Be a Whole New Generation of Material'

The Selma star is thrilled that her daughter will be surrounded by more diversity than she was.

What mother wouldn't want the best for her daughter?

Growing up in the UK, Selma star Carmen Ejogo didn't have many Black actresses to look up to, she dished while walking our ESSENCE Black Women in Hollywood red carpet.

"A lot of my references are definitely White actresses like Jessica Lange, Bette Davis, Gena Rowlands," she said.

But, much to her delight, that landscape is quickly changing, just in time for the next generation.

"I'm very excited, though, for my daughter that there's going to to be a whole new generation of material and movies and performances that are so iconic and so beautiful that she will have so much more to choose from and to aspire and to guide the path that she chooses."

And Ejogo is doing all she can to make sure that the industry keeps evolving!
