Crush Alert
We just love a good HBCU love story. While Alisha attended Spelman College Jordan was right across the way at Morehouse College. A “Spelhouse” love, as alumni from both colleges often call it, would soon bloom. Alisha met her future husband while mentoring for a community service organization called Miniskirts and Blue Jeans. “At the time, his hair was loc’ed and down to his shoulders,” she describes. “I told my Spelman sister Shameka, who happened to be the girlfriend of his best friend at the time, ‘That dude with the locs is kind of cute!’” She hooked them up, of course. “I initially thought he was too nice for me,” she jokes. “I didn’t think he could handle all of this.” Well, he could, and the best between them was yet to come.
Surprise!
Jordan’s proposal came as a complete surprise to Alisha. He flew her mom in from California to spend Thanksgiving with them. Or so Alisha thought. He came with a secret plan to have Alisha’s closest girlfriends and family all together for a big surprise reveal. “Jordan and his cousin somehow got all those people to hide in the utility closet at his cousin’s loft before we arrived,” she tells us. “Meanwhile, we got up to the rooftop deck, and I remember the Atlanta skyline was beautiful. The next thing I knew, I see all of my friends and family approaching us slowly with candles. Jordan got down and asked me to be his wife. My response: Absolutely!”
