Nelson Mandela Remains Hospitalized After Surgery

The South African leader underwent endoscopic surgery this morning to remove gall stones.

South African leader Nelson Mandela, now 94, underwent endoscopic surgery this morning to remove gall stones, just days after receiving treatment for a lung infection, reports CNN.

"The procedure was successful, and Madiba is recovering," said presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj.

Mandela has been hospitalized since December 8 due to a history of lung problems after becoming ill with tuberculosis in 1988, but is receiving round-the-clock care.
