As of late, the 83-year-old poet has been traveling and making several appearances across the country. She was scheduled to speak at Texas Women’s University in Denton on Tuesday but canceled, according to her agent, David LaCamera.
Although LaCamera didn’t give further details on the nature of Angelou’s illness, she’s said to be resting at her Winston-Salem, N.C. home, and is currently unable to travel.
Angelou’s doctors have instructed her to slow down, which may be difficult given her commitment to hosting a radio special on the Civil Rights Era.
Leave your well wishes for Dr. Maya Angelou below.
