NYFW Trend Report: Day 6

Marchesa Spring 2012
Nearly a week's worth of shows later and one thing is clear: designers are in a retro mood. From shapes to colors to accessories, there was a definite nod to the Sixties and Seventies in many of the looks that debuted on the runway. And what else did they love? Bright, white show-stoppers and sheer overlays. Find out what other trends ruled on Day Six of Fashion Week.

Colors: White on white on white. Vera Wang, whose collection was dominated by the color, was one of many designers who selected it yesterday. On the other end of the spectrum, labels like Narciso Rodriquez, Rodarte and Marchesa featured the color minimally, and focused on mixed prints, chic florals and luxe materials for their collections.

Shapes: Yesterday, things got complicated. While labels like Tibi and Chadwick Bell kept to super simple shapes that fell loosely along the body, others, like Wang, debuted intricate, richly layered pieces that simply took our breath away. These shapes made for clothes that make a statement.

Fabrics: Rich silks and jerseys chiffons and lots of tulle made it down the runways on Day Six!

Where You'll Wear Them: Your inner glamour queen will rejoice in yesterday's clothes. Should you be so lucky -- these are pieces that are taking you to balls, premieres and major red carpet events. And even if they weren't, they are totally worth wearing just for the fabness of it!
