After keeping quiet about claims of sexual coercion against him, Georgia Bishop Eddie Long spoke to his 25,000-member congregation at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church this morning in a 20-minute address. He made clear that his first responsibility was to communicate with his family, reports CNN.
He admitted,"this is probably the most difficult time." On being accused
"I've been accused, I'm under attack. I want you to know, as I said earlier, that I am not a perfect man," he said. "But this thing, I'm going to fight." On keeping his strength
"And I want you to know one other thing," he told the cheering crowd, according to CNN. "I feel like David against Goliath, but I've got five rocks and I haven't thrown one yet." On the charges
"Let me be clear: The charges against me and New Birth are false," he said on Thursday in a statement. "I have devoted my life to helping others and these false allegations hurt me deeply, but my faith is strong and the truth will emerge."
