Sisters are still doing it for themselves. Officials working with and for Alameda County in California (the Oakland area) cited anecdotal evidence of an increase of single black women over age 40 becoming adoptive parents, according to The Oakland Tribune. Officials say many professional Black women over 40 are part of the reason why Alameda County has seen its foster child population drop to 2,200 today from more than 4,400 between five and seven years ago.–BB
