Mo’Nique is no stranger to historical firsts. The comedian, actress and best-selling author ranks No. 1 on BlogTalkRadio/Plus Model magazine’s First Annual Top 12 Curvy Entertainers’ List. The list honors those curvy women who have made their historical marks in the entertainment industry while empowering real women who have curves.
“Mo’Nique has built a winning career while maintaining her belief that women with curves deserve to be successful—and to have it all,” said Chenese Lewis, host of BlogTalkRadio’s “Plus Model Radio.”
And the Baltimore native has always set precedents in her career, including launching F.A.T. Chance, her plus-size beauty pageant, on the Oxygen network, reportedly making it the network’s highest-rated program in its history. “I think in Hollywood, when you have some meat on your bones and don’t apologize for it, people wonder, Why isn’t she saying she’s sorry? Why isn’t she on a diet? Why isn’t she doing it our way?” asks Mo’Nique in our December 2005 issue.
And the media is beginning to echo those sentiments. “This ranking is a long overdue,” said Philip Recchia, BlogTalkRadio’s director of programming. “Curvy women as leading ladies and headline acts are fast becoming the norm, which has helped do away with the stigma of curves among our population as a whole.”
Others influential and shapely starlets who graced the list are “That’s So Raven” diva Raven-Symoné, CoverGirl beauty Queen Latifah and media mogul Oprah Winfrey.
