The second edition of the ESSENCE Essential Heroes Awards is almost here, and we’ve got so much in store in celebration of all those who have remained on the frontlines throughout this year of unprecedented challenges.
Hosted by actress, model and TV personality Eva Marcille and sponsored in part by AT&T, Disney Parks, Disney Studios and Hyundai, the ESSENCE Essential Heroes Awards will stream on Wednesday, November 18, on Essence.com and the ESSENCE Facebook page beginning at 6PM EST.
The one-hour program will feature heartwarming stories from more than 20 deserving honorees across four categories:
Community Change-Makers
Individuals who work in or volunteer in work that changes the direction or state of their community through activism, civic engagement, social change or vocational and financial training.
Educators
Teachers, professors or administrators who have done extraordinary work during this unprecedented time to inspire students to keep going.
Mental Health
Individuals who work in, or do work, that advances mental health support in our community.
Parents and Family
Parents or children who have pushed forward during this time against extraordinary odds.
The program will also feature unforgettable performances from the talented ladies of June’s Diary and Grammy-nominated musician Jon Batiste with a special guest appearance by Jamie Foxx. We’ll also pay tribute to all the hardworking poll workers and ballot counters who worked day and night to make sure every vote was counted in the crucial 2020 presidential election.
