ESSENCE April cover star Audra McDonald counts legendary blues singer Billie Holiday as one of her icons. On her HBO special, Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, airing this weekend, McDonald reprises her role as Holiday, performing at one of her last concerts before her death in 1959.
