While the verdict is still out on who will take on the face of the next James Bond, Zoe Saldana thought she would help directors with the trivial question on throwing Idris Elba into the pot.
The discussion over Idris Elba possibly becoming the next James Bond has been heating up over the past few years and one fellow Hollywood star who thinks he’s definitely the man for the job is Zoe Saldana.
Speaking openly about her thoughts on Idris as the next Bond, Zoe recently told Glamour UK that it’s long overdue. “I think Idris should have been Bond a long time ago,” she said. “Why wouldn’t [he] be Bond?” The upcoming Star Trek Beyond blockbuster will mark the first time the pair has shared the big screen together since 2010’s Takers, and Zoe had no problem sharing how fond she is of her co-star. “I love him and adore him and honestly believe that he is one of the sexiest men alive,” she continued. While the wife and mother of two is quite comfortable speaking highly of the handsome entertainer, she makes it clear that her husband isn’t bothered in the least. “My husband won’t mind me saying that because, trust me, he agrees with me,” she told the publication.
Despite James Bond franchise fans naming Idris as one of the top picks to portray the coveted character next, the film’s director recently hinted that none of the current “favorites” are likely to be chosen for the role. As far as Zoe is concerned, those at the helm need to either get on board with idea and move towards evolving the franchise or pass it on to others who will. “If the people behind Bond are not capable of evolving, then I really hope that the whole franchise passes on to new, fresher, younger and more intelligent hands: people who are able to make better decisions for James Bond.”
Let’s hope Zoe’s mindset rubs off on those behind the scenes when it’s all said and done.
